I flew into Sacramento on Tuesday and could see acres and acres of rice waiting to be harvested. I was raised in this little tiny town that is surrounded by rice fields. People ask me all the time, Rice in California? Yes, Colusa County at one time was the largest rice growing area per capita in the US.
Yesterday I spent time with my brother in law Mike who helps out at Ridge Top Rice Dryer. He collects the rice samples and then they test the moisture content of the rice. This helps determine how long each farmer’s rice needs to be dried before it is sent to the mill for milling the hauls and polishing the rice.
